Tpms Adjustment

Northern Sierra

I am looking to switch my tires on my 2008 sierra slt 2500 and if you have less than 75lbs of air in the tires the check tire pressure light comes on, I am looking to put D load tires instead of E load tires so I wont be putting 75lbs of air in the tires. Is there a way to reprogram the system to allow for a lower min. tire pressure?

The dealer can reprogram the TPMS thresholds. Many will not because GM and their insurance companies have told them not to because of liability concerns. However, it is a simple process using a Tech II to reprogram the BCM. If you can find a dealer to do it, it shouldn't cost more than a half-hour of labor charges since it literally takes 5 minutes to do.

The better question is why would you put a D load tire on a 2500. your truck will chew up those D load tires and youll wonder why your replacing tires so much

I've seen lots of guys get plenty of miles out of a D tire on a 2500...IMO, as long as he isn't towing or hauling near max capacity all the time those tires will be fine. A D is a pretty stout tire. E's are over-kill for most people.

D and E ratings are just load carrying capabilities. They have nothing to do with how long the tires will last. I agree that an E rated tire would hold up to heavy loads better, but I think a D rated tire would be fine on a 2500 that didn't haul heavy loads or tow constantly.
