Installed New Steering Wheel Today

I found time to install my new steering wheel today that I bought from Schram auto parts. Pretty easy once I had the correct steering wheel puller. New radio controls all work! Plug-and-Play! Leather is nice also.

I have a 2007 Chevy Akron Edition, with the special Summit County Paint job, and Cuyahoga River Suspension package. I also added the radio control wheel.

I just replaced my wheel yesterday same as this.

Also purchased from Schram

It is the same wheel I had on my SLT so glad to have the radio controls back.

I did not use a puller mine popped right off after a little tug hardest part for me was disconnecting the airbag clips. :)

What steering wheel puller? I took the nut off of mine and it slid off without any effort. Did they change something?

I tried loosening the nut to the top of the threads and start pulling on the wheel with my hands but I thought I was going to damage something in the column. When I finally put the steering wheel puller on it I had quite a bit of tension on it, then BANG, it came loose. That thing was on there. There is no way my wheel would release without the puller. I was hoping that after the nut was removed my wheel would have slid off like yours, but no such luck.

The splines are actually slightly tapered, and after sometime it will require a puller. Mine just needed a tug to come off, but it was only a couple of months old.

My truck is also only two months old and that wheel was really stuck. I even tried pulling on the wheel while my son hit the splined shaft with a plastic headed hammer, but no dice. The puller definitely made thing easier I just don't think I'll need it again. I'd like to return it. It was over $50 with tax and I'll probably never use it again.

i did this back when i bought my truck, but i replaced the plastic wheel with a leather non-radio control wheel i found new for $50. i remember that being a hell of a deal back then. i assume you are replacing with a used wheel for this price? either way, sounds like you got a great deal. this upgrade makes a huge difference in the overall feel of the quality of your truck. congrats! :D

I did this to mine when I bought it. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Hard to believe a wheel could make so much difference in the way the truck feels.
