Hey everyone. Im new to the forum. Sold my F350 4x4 crew cab 6.0 powerstroke lariat and looking for a gasser. Here is what I found:

2005 GMC 2500HD Crew Cab 4x4

6.0 gas

it is slt so it has leather

144k miles

new tires. body looks great. They are asking $13,400 plus tax, title, licence, etc. Is this too high?

What issues should I look for on this truck? I did notice this in the picture that kind of scared me. Look at the oil gauge.... Seems kinda high.

I can not look at the truck in person, bc it is 3 hours away. I thought I would get some input on this site before I make the journey.

That's a good price. As far as the oil gauge that might be a mechanical issue. I highly doubt the oil pressure was at max psi idling, assuming the engine was running when the picture was taken. Looking at the rest of the gauges, it would appear it was indeed running. Those are good, solid trucks. They will give many years of dependable service if they have been well taken care of. Ask for service records.

the oil guage is normal.. its just idling.. and for some reason its in 3 not park. these trucks dont really have any major mechanical problems so you should be good. not a bad price.. whats the condition of the truck

looks like a nice truck... id make the purchase... on this is the best GM truck forum out there and you will find everything you need to know about your truck.

dosent look rusty, which is important

It is a very nice looking truck. Mt. Moriah is the area of Memphis where there are a large number of car dealers.

I would get a carfax report and the GM maintenance history of the truck before I bought it.

Carfax was clean. It was a Alabama/Tennessee truck. No wrecks reported. To get a GM maintenance history, do I just call my dealer and give them the VIN?

1. Most likely maintenance history is going to be privileged information. I doubt anybody can just call and start inquiring about random vehicles. If the seller doesnt have these records then its going to be pretty tough to get until you buy the truck. Once the title or bill of sale is in hand showing the truck is your then you can roll into GM dealer and request information.

2. That oil gauge is mostly a dummy gauge just to show that you have oil pressure. It is read from the computer. It also depends on the filter installed. On my old 2006 I went to NAPA and picked up a filter that was for my truck but looked slightly smaller than the one I took off. Needless to say, it raised the oil pressure gauge a little when i romped on it. If it is a gauge issue however, there are rebuild kits on ebay you can buy to rebuild those dashes.

3. While others swear by carfax and its still a good idea its not always fool proof. Carfax reports only get filed when a police report is filed. Case in point, I wrecked my 2006 and since it was settled just through insurance companies and no police was called when i ran the carfax to sell it the title was clear. Some dealers use it some dont. My repairs were done by the dealer too. Go figure.

Another good source to check is Autocheck. They are a service similar to car fax. It would be good to get both the carfax and the autocheck records and cross reference them. I recently bought another truck and I found that both services found different events.

It sounds like a pretty good deal, especially for the year. Offer them 13,500 out the door.

That is a good lookin truck. It looks like it is in great shape. If it runs strong I would think that would be a good purchase.

Could it be the stepping motor issue ?

Oil pressure does look too high...don't know what that could mean though.

Just wondering, why trade off a diesel for a gas?

Dont really pull a camper anymore. Sold it. Wasnt really in the market to sell the diesel but got an offer I couldnt refuse. I do miss it sometimes though.

I figure if I need to pull my car hauler this gmc 2500hd would serve that purpose and I rarely do that now.
