Another Water Leak

I've been using the search function and looking for about 3 hours, I can't find anything on this, please help if you can. I found plenty of other threads on water leaks, but none on this particular area. If I missed it, please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.....

 

Sunday night we had very heavy rain and my driver's side rear door was filled up with water. It took me opening and closing the door the next morning to find it(actually I heard it). This also happened back in the spring, but I wrote it off as a fluke. Now with this second time, I need to figure out what is going on.

 

This is waaaaaay too weird....got 50k on the truck, and it just now shows up!?!?!?!?!?!

 

Has anyone had this problem? Got any ideas what it could be? What kind of expense am I looking at?

 

BTW....I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the truck. Will it be covered?

Have you checked the drains in bottom of the door to make sure they aren't blocked with debris? Water can get in where the glass comes out of the door. It isn't designed to be watertight, thus the drains in the bottom.

True story, Def check the drainsat the bottom of the door, they have to be blocked or restricted.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check them for blockage. This at least makes me feel a little better that it's not too serious.

The drain holes were stopped up, problem solved. Never too old to learn something!! Thanks.

Good deal that you solved it. A LOT of water flows through the door in a downpour and the drains are not very big!

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea....I've seen several early to mid '00's Silverado/Sierras come in the shop here and the rocker panels like to start rusting early it seems...not much of a drain hole there either. Looks like maybe you could fit a nickel in the slot. I've taken my air nozzle and blown the crap/crud/whatever out of the holes.

If you decide to drill out or just open up the holes a bit, I would probably put a little paint on the bare spots to keep them from rusting.

As far as the doors go, the rubber strips at the bottom of the windows aren't exactly water tight...that and whatever dust that gets inside the doors mixes up and you have your crud pretty much. Not a whole lot you can do....it happens to the best of them.

Good to know about the doors. I had a pretty bad experience with water leaks. After just a month of owning my Truck when I got back from my honeymoon I got in after a huge thunderstorm. Then I noticed a mini waterfall coming down from the centre console dripping all over the dash and onto the navigation and HVAC controls. I was pissed because the week I was gone it rained a lot. When I took it in turned out the drains were not routed properly and had to be rerouted. Talk about being scared about damaging something I bought for just a month. Thank god that nothing was damaged because of water leaking everywhere.
