My Volant Intake Came Today, Threw It On!

Picked it up used off a forum member. I couldnt believe all the resonator/baffles in the stock intake tube. It had FOUR different chambers to deaden noise haha.

Yea it really is amazing when you take the stock intake tube off and get a good look at it.

Havent driven it yet, but notice truck has different tone coming out the flowmaster muffler sound a lot better.

Wow, I had no idea the stock intake tube looked like that! I mean I see it there every time I open the hood but it really looks like a power robbing POS after its removed. Please let us know if you notice a power increase after you take it for a spin. Looks great BTW!!

why i am keeping the stock high flow box and getting a smooth tube to go to the stock box

I put a Volant on my 2004 GMC and had it on for over 1 yr and about 20,000 miles. Absolutely no increase in mileage and as for power, how would you know. There is no way to tell a power increase just driving it. It made a lot of noise and I am sure many equate that to more power but that's not power. I finally could not stand it any longer and removed to put the oem one back on.

 

Biggest waste of money I ever spent.

 

All the extra you see on the oem is to control the noise.

 

How do I know it never increased mpg? I kept track of all expenses and mileage for tax reasons. Mileage during the Volant was actually below the average by about 0.2.

More than likely truck needs a tune, its next on my list. Probably would have helped your old truck a bit.

They truck had roughly 15 ,000 miles when I installed it. I traded the truck in with less than 50,000 miles. I will never tune any of my trucks, not worth it to me when I trade every 2-4 yrs,

You could always buy a tuner, flash it to stock when your getting rid of it, and sell it once you trade your car in.

I have an AEM intake on mine. didn't notice much when I first installed it, then I got a tune(blackbear). AFter a few months I put the stocker back on and noticed it being more sluggish and close to 2 mpg worse. AEM went back on.

 

I had a volant with the powercore on my 07 tundra. didn't notice any increase in power or mpg. when I removed it before I sold it I realized how much snap off of the bottom I had lost.

 

I'll have to try and find the post, but I believe it was from Jenna with blackbear and flow characteristics of a lot of the intakes comparing them to stock and low and behold the stocker flowed the best in most test areas and was at the top in the most important one. What a surprise, the GM engineers know whats up! Makes me wonder how my truck would go with a tune on the stock intake, but happy I have a serviceable element and I love my truck!!!!!!

 

My old Volant was much nicer of an intake than the AEM that I have now. Powercore filter is supposed to be the bomb too!

that looks good man. im really surprised that people dont see an increase in power with these things. i was dfoig the 6 headlight mod yesterday and looked at the stock intake. it looks like it barely breathes with how thin it gets for the clutch fan dent that gm put into it.

Ya it will be nice having a filter all I have to do is shake out clean, and I nabbed the whole intake with under 1,000 miles for 170.
