CAI = lower MPG and more noise.. that is all they are good for..

 

 

never seen one on a modern car that raised HP more than a couple of digits, MAYBE 5hp at the most.. but seeing as HP is a high RPM rating and Torque is the key for faster off the line acceleration who the hell cares about 5hp especially when the trade off is loss of 1 - 2 (or more) mpg..

 

 

now if you are out for the sound, AND you do full exhaust (which will yield a bit more power because over all the engine can breathe a bit better) AND you put in a lower temp rated T-stat AND you TUNE the PCM, then yes you might see some improvement, but again, more power = lower MPG (because you'll never keep your foot out of it).

dont get me wrong i have always used after market filters but im going back to ac delco filters IMO cheap insurance when K&N and others say 97% or 98% thats still 3 or 2 % of crap I dont want in my motor

I'm not getting into a filter debate in here. It's just like arguing about oil or oil changes... Everybody has an opinion and data to back it up.

 

You use what you think is perfect and I'll do the same.

One tried and true method to know if the air filter you are using is doing it's job and holding up for the amount of time you have it installed and this is for protection more so than anything, is to have an oil analysis accomplished. If dirt is getting in it will show up. As for performance, well that can be done as well. Take out the stock filter, install a K&N. If your oil analysis show no change in readings then the filter should be doing it's job.

 

Everyone's driving habits and conditions are different. We don't drive our vehicles in a lab, we take them out in the real world and shake, move, vibrate and anything else out of them, which all comes into play on how it performs and protects.

well i work on heavy equipment and we do oil analysis on everything, many factors including fuel air leaks and oil supplier that could cause dirt to show in the results hell even taking the sample the wrong way (cleanness) could show up dirt. take a clean cotton shirt and run it along the inside of the intake pipe after a k&n filter and you'll see oil and dust residue inside at-least that's what i got . just my personal experience and my my honest opinion

The proof that CAI does work better than standard filters is in the fact that there are so many out there and that there is more data the proves that they do perform well as compared to the original post up above.
