Cruise Control Not Working - Lift & Gear Related?

Shortly after I installed a 6" lift and 35s on my 2008 Silverado GMT900 I noticed the cruise control sometimes would work, sometimes wouldn't. I also changed the rear gear from 3.23 to 4.56 so now the speedo is over. (I intend to get it reprogrammed, just waiting a bit to space out the expenses.) It got so it would work less and less often, and I even had a day where I would set it and it would kick it off after a few seconds. That particular day it let me set it each time, but really quickly shut off. Now the cruise control doesn't work at all.

So, is it at all possible that the failed cruise control is related to the lift/tires/gears?

I would recommend checking the ABS Sensors. If the ABS sensors were re-installed incorrectly or damaged when your lift was installed it can affect the Cruise Control.

Going from 3.23 to 4.56 gears, the truck "thinks" it's going a lot faster than it is. The cruise is setup to operate at certain speeds and RPMs (detected by the speed sensors) as it was when it came from the factory. I'm sure reprogramming for the gears will fix it.

I agree that it SOUNDS LIKE the above described condition. The various sensors that measure vehicle speed aren't in agreement and that makes the vehicle think that there is a loss of traction and it is shutting down the cruise control.

I got my tune in December which corrected the spedometer, and the computer has had plenty of time now to relearn the new settings. My cruise still isn't working - so I was wondering what to check for next. How do I check if the ABS sensors are ok? The AutoCal is not showing any codes.

Is the truck equipped with Stabilitrack/ Traction Control?

Is the truck 4wd? if so, did you change the front gears?

Yes, it has Traction control and (I'm pretty sure) Stabilitrack. It is an '08 LS.

No, it is 2 wheel drive. Has a TrueTrac in the back.

It has stabilitrak. If you want to disable it to test, hold the traction control button in for a few seconds and it will turn off both traction control and stabilitrak.

The cruise control uses the VSS not ABS to detect vehicle speed. Check codes with a scanner not a code reader to find the cause.
