Remote Start

I always was weary when I came across advertisements for remote starters for $49.99. You get what you pay for. My warranty would cover it, if a problem occurred as a result of the remote starter, but I have a good one, so I am not concerned. Actually had a problem with the alarm and Viper gave me a brain new brain module no questions asked after it was 2 -3 years old. I had an Ungo in my F250 which is made by Clarion, it worked well, but the viper one I currently have now has a farther range to it. I can start my vehicle from inside my house and start the car in the other building which is 150 ft away. Also don't have any problems turning it off if I want to via remote. Furthest range it started my vehicle was over 600 ft which I thought was impressive considering I live in a rural thick wooded area. There is an add on for my Viper where I can use an internet connection to start the vehicle from anywhere in the world, but it was like $150 more I think for it.

aftermarket remote/alarm systems are far superior to the factory stuff. Go with something decent (DEI products) and have a good installer put it in and you will never have a problem. I have done all my own and never had an issue once. I did however, acquire my work truck with 25k miles on it and the alarm/remote was nothing but trouble. I pulled it out and found twisted and taped wiring. I soldering everything, reprogrammed the unit myself and never had an issue up until I got rid of it a while back.

My new work truck, 2011 2500HD, had factory alarm and remote start...bypassed it and installed a Clifford system (DEI....viper 5901 knockoff) two weeks after I got the truck.

Just to update;

I had my remote start software install done today. Had no problems, took about 35mins, but they charged me an hour of labor, lol

So I bought the key fobs for 200, then the dealership had to get a special code from GM and then use the scan tool to download the software to activate the remote start.

Dont think it has the range of my last aftermarket unit, but I really only need it to reach my driveway, lol.

I had the dealer do the gmaccessories one on my truck. I like the fact that it cannot screw with your warranty or be the blame by the dealer when something goes wrong with some electrical part. I got the 2 way one, and it seems to work from a fair ways away, they put an antennae at the bottom of the rear window for it, something about extended range or something. It ran about $300CAD installed.

I'm told the 2 way advanced remote is not available of the 2011. Apparently some are having luck with the 2010 accessory search and installing those into the 2011s. My only issue is I can't tell which one will work, not even with my full list of RPO codes...
