Nht Vs. Z71 Difference And All Differences Of Silverado Vs. Sierra

Well after my original post and some thinking i decided not to go with a denali. I want a real 4x4 and that just isn't going to happen with an AWD. So i guess my main concern now is picking either a silverado or sierra and the big kicker is if i should get the NHT (Max trailering package) or the Z71. Still can't decide if i want a white or black truck ( i hated washing my black gtp just to see it dirty again in 20 mins) but that might be a new thread. I'll start with the little I know about all of this, please correct me if i'm wrong. Looking at trucks from 2009 and up so I can get the 6 speed. Still not sure if going new would be better or not as i'm looking to keep it for 5 plus years? chime in if you want on this too.

I will be purchasing a 6.2 truck no matter what. I believe I get all disc brakes, upgraded rear diff, and upgraded cooling fans with this?

Z71 package: Only comes with 3:42 gears (better fuel mileage?) Aparently this is the more desired appearance package? What exactly is different in appearance between the Z71 and the NHT? This comes with a ligher suspension and less towing capability as well?

NHT package (Max trailering): Comes with only 3:73 gears. Only 17" wheels? and chrome accessories? Heavier suspension?

As far as i can tell between a sierra and silverado it's the same from the firewall back besides maybe tail lights? Is the hood any different? Obviously the grill is. I LOVE how the denali front end looks, aparently you can bolt on the denali grill to a sierra? As far as the interior goes all I could tell at first glance was the sierra has "GMC" on the steering wheel and the silverado has "silverado" on the wheel. What is different on the insides comparing both trucks with the highest trim levels?

Mainly....Its all going to come down to if you want 3.42 or 3.73's.

NHT is limited to 17' wheels,Z85 suspension pkg.,higher rated springs, and 3.73's. It does have a higher towing capacity/rating over the Z71/Z60 suspension pkgs. (about 10,400 compared with 9,400 w/o NHT)

Z71 you can get 17" or 18" wheels, and you are limited to 3.42's. You can also order the Z71 appearance pkg which gives you RANCHO branded shocks,Z71 logo'ed I/P cluster, bright sill plates, chrome tow hooks,body-colored front bumper, grille, lower valance, door handles, and mirror caps. Its very similar to the GMC's "All-Terrain" appearance package.

Z60 suspension will give you 20" wheels only, and also 3.42's.

The complete front-clips are different from GMC to Chevrolet (Hood, fenders, grille, bumper, lights) The bedsides are also different. They also use different wheels.

The interiors are pretty much the same other than some of the fake wood or aluminum trim being a little different appearance-wise.

Personally I went with the Z71. Why? I did not need the NHT pkg as I tow very little (unless I get a boat in the future) and it came down to looks. I love the painted front end, mirrors, door handles, and the 18" rims so I went with the Z71 and Z71 appearance pkg. I agaonized for awhile originally because it looked as if the NHT was the only way to get the 6.2. It really comes down to the individual and what you will use your truck for.

Another benefit of the NHT package is that it comes with the 9.5" 14 bolt rear as opposed to the 8.5" 10 bolt.

Not a big deal for everyone... but if you're considering performance mods, or running bigger tires, or even just towing a lot, the axle upgrade is a big advantage.

Edit: unless the 14 bolt comes behind 6.2L trucks that don't have the NHT package? I'm not sure... i thought it was an NHT thing.... could (and probably am) wrong...

The 9.5" 14-bolt rear comes with 6.0/6.2 trucks Matt, regardless if they have NHT or not. (the exception being AWD Denali's which retain the 8.6" rear-end)

All 6.2 trucks also have 4-wheel disc brakes,All 6.0 crew-cabs have 4-wheel disc brakes,'07-'09 6.0 extended-cab trucks have 4-wheel disc brakes if they have the optional Stabilitrak.

Get a white Z71 Sierra!... IMO, you really can't go wrong with either truck. It all comes down to what you can get a better deal on, what looks better, and what truck has the features you want.
