New Tires For My Silverado

Hey guys I am new to all this.

A little background first. I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado Z71 Crew cab with a 2" Rough Country leveling kit. Will soon have a K&N air intake. I drive mostly on paved roads and highways, back and forth to work. But, sometimes I have to take my truck off road when I am doing my volunteer firefighting.

I bought the truck used and I have about 55K miles on what I believe is the original tires. They are Bridgestone Dueller AT 265/65/R18. I am still running the OEM 18" rims and I will be staying with them for the time being due to cash allowances. I am looking at new tires. I want a bigger tire, maybe a little wider and more of an aggresive look that works well on roads and also gives me a little help in farm ground when I am out chasing a running fire.

I am looking at getting 305/60/18 Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ. I am asking for pro's and con's, will this work on OEM rim, will they rub, do they wear easily, mileage and all that rest. You know the drill. Thanks guys!

If your 2007 is the new body style your probably going to get some rubbing with a tire that wide.

You would want to go with the 275/70/18 with a stock wheel. The 305 is for wider rims (8.5-11).

As far as info on that tire there is plenty of first hand knowledge if you search for it. My buddy has then on his truck and loves them. He just bought his third set and drives about like you do as far as roads. I have seen him go through some thick GA mud so I know they are great offroad. He claims to get @50K miles out of them. He drives mostly straight highway to and from work. North to South GA and back once a week.

275/70/18 Won't fit without a leveling kit without some serious rubbing.

He has one. Should be fine.

Thanks guys for the information. I really want the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ and that is why I am researching so much. There is a guy that has the 305/60/18 on a OEM 18" rim. I messaged him and he told me there was a little rubbing but not much. Hard decision........

Any other tire recommendations????

I looked at the Mickey's for my truck. Only reason I went with the Goodyear Duratracs is the 10 ply rating. Mickey didn't have that. I had a set of Baja Claws on my 2000 1/2 ton and LOVED them, balanced and rode great. Other than a little noise you couldn't tell they were mud tires from the ride. I do like these Goodyears too.

At this time I have not done anything yet. Still weighing my options. Haven't decided yet if going to buy new rims or not. Don't really want to, but to fit the 305's may need to. So the search is still on, the research is still going as well.....

My question is: What are the rubbing rulkes of thumb when buying tires? IOW, what is the maximum dia. or width of tire with stock suspension and what is the max for a silvy w/a leveling kit?

I would assume the 275 would work w/o a levelling kit. But I have not tried, so assume and I make an ass out of u and me.

Okay what about 285/65/18 Nitto Trail Grapplers??????

Do this... Please. 305's you're gonna have trouble fitting on just a leveling kit. 285/65/18 Trail Grapplers looks very very good, You'll be pleased!

Anything like 305, or 33x12.5 is gonna rub more than likely. Stock rims are your best bet for fitting larger tires (width wise, which is the problem on these trucks... width not height). Some people may say "Oh it doesn't rub that bad" but when you get it at full lock it may rub like a mofo. In my opinion ANY rubbing is a no go. There is nothing worse than a good looking truck scrubbing HARD when it drives over any kind of incline. Stay in a 285/65/18 range and you'll be fine rubbing wise and look real good too.
