How often should i change the fluid and filter? and how many quarts of fluid do i need?

if you flush the trans (on the machine with it running) 15-16qts. depends on your driving and condition of the fluid. you tow alot? plow? beat it up? i would consider a flush at 50-60k or 4 years normal driving. GM i think doesn't call for it until 100k

Nope! No towing or plowing.just alot of highway driving and city stop and go.and the truck has 78,789 miles on it.

You should just change the filter and replace the fluid that is drained out of the pan.

 

My manual says 80,000kms for severe duty.

 

It was just over 4 litres I had to put back in I think.

Why would you put old fluid back into a freshly flushed transmission. That would be kinda like putting your old oil back into your engine after replacing the filter.
