Thinking About A New 6.2

I have an 09 5.3 with AFM and 3.73's and 4 speed. The 2011 has 6.2 3.42's and 6 speed.

My big question is to those that have gone from the 5.3 to the 6.2 is, do you like it better? Why? And how is the fuel milage comparing one to the other?

I will be getting almost identical truck exept color will go from black to silver. I like the silver alot better(easier to keep looking clean).

Please be honest with your opinion.

I also looked at the Fords. But the motor seems to have less power. And to get the same amount of truck is about $8000 more. So that will never happen.

Search the multiple 6.2 threads and you will see there has never been a negative comment

This is my first truck that I ever owned. I'm lucky to get 15.5 mpg driving to and from work 78 miles round trip (winter graded fuel FML). The summer time it gets 18 with out a problem. This truck has all the power to get anything done..I'm a big fan of it.

I just tried corn not to long ago and I could get 12ish out of it.

all in all it what you want.

There is really no comparison between the 5.3 and 6.2 power wise... only the mileage compares :D

In the winter on interstate im lucky to be in the 15-16 range it seems, thats at 75+. At 68 i was getting 17 in rolling hills. In the summer it seems to be better. O ya, the power is awesome!

Don't forget, GM is scheduled to replace the GMT900 platform for the 2013 body style. 2011 is out now, so about a year and a half for the new body style. You could either wait for that, or pick up a GMT900 6.2 CHEAP just before/just after the 2013s are released.

Side note, the new Impala is set for later this year (2012). Supposed to be a big Cruze. Malibu is also getting a nice redesign for 2012 or 2013, also based on the Cruze :D

I went from a 09 5.3 3:42 6-speed into a Denali 6.2 3:42 and I am extremely happy with it, no question.

My 5.3 had AFM and had just started to get the lifter tick at 8K KM and I traded it in around 10K KM, my 6.2 doesn't have AFM and I'm glad it doesn't. I flat out don't trust it, something about the whole idea rubs me the wrong way ie uneven wear issues. Some people like it, I did at first but quickly changed my mind after owning it a while.

Mileage wise they are pretty close to the same, I honestly don't get much worse than my 5.3 and the extra power MORE than makes up for it imo.

You won't regret it.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to test drive one today. If I like it enough I will have them get the other truck in.

THe 6.2 wasn't a consideration when I was looking. But after reading this forum for a while, I do regret not considering it because of 1.the negative afm reviews, 2. similar mpg, and 3.well - hell, it just has to be fun to dump the pedal on 400hp once in a while. Next time, I'll definately test drive one.

Won't you take a hit unloading the 09 after only 2 years? I'd wait and see if you like the new bodystyle myself and get one if you like them, or, if you don't, save a bundle and get one of the last 900's.

had an '08 Sierra all terrain for a year. 5.3afm and 3.73's (4x4). switched to an '09 Tahoe LTZ 5.3afm and 3.08's (4x4) and now the Denali. 3.42's & 6.2 (mine does have afm but with the 5 year powertrain warranty i'm not concerned, if it blows up after that i can remove the afm myself, including the cam, only having to pay for parts).

the 6.2 is a night and day difference. if you drive them both you will the 6.2 10 out of 10 times. the only question you will have is can you afford the extra fuel. well i haven't noticed a significant difference between the 5.3 & 6.2 in the Tahoe vs Denali. MAYBE 1.5mpg? i was averaging around 15.2 or so in the Tahoe onthe DIC and the Denali is like 13.5-14.3, that's all city (mostly 35mph limits or less). on the highway the two are almost identical.

Oh come on guys the 5.3L's are far superior!:lol:

Sorry guys I just couldn't resist. I'd even just love to test drive one if they ever stocked any in the dealerships around here... Well ok maybe I don't because then I'd want one. ....or maybe I already kinda do... I sort of equate it to my Grand Prix and the difference between the 3.8L V6 GT and the same engine in the supercharged version in the GTP. Both good engines but the latter definitely has a fair bit more kick.

Well I drove the truck. I love the power.

They tried to beat me up on my trades. I was going to trade my Accord and my truck. They hit me at $7500 for the car and and $26000 on the truck. That would have put me at over $800 a month after all was said and done. I got them to the payment is at around $740 but not sure I'm going to pull the trigger.

Right now my combined payments are $850 and I have 2 vehicals. And car doesn't cost nearly as much to drive as the truck. Not to mention it is a little faster then the truck with the 6.2.

I have to think about it for a day or 2.
