Tow-haul Shift Points

I have a 2011 Sierra 5.3 w/6sp auto. I noticed that when in Towhaul mode is won't go into 6th gear (not towing anything). If I disconnect the battery to reset the CPU would that make a difference. If I turn off t/h it will drop into 6th and stay if I turn t/h back on. Just thinking the computer needs a reset. Thoughts?

you will not be resetting anything, its pprogramming and thats it ,no,you cannot change it thru GM.

tuners won't either

If the truck will tow the load comfortably in 6th gear, you don't need tow/haul mode engaged.

what ????

it would never stay in that gear ,it would constantly go in and out of that gear creating heat and clutch wear ,

tow/haul changes all line presssures and shift points to save itself from thoughts like yours robert,

the old 700r4s and the 4l60e and 80s without a tow haul feature was recommended to tow in 3rd which is 1-1 ratio

??? If it won't stay in that gear, then it isn't "towing comfortably in that gear". The OP specifically is trying tow/haul when not towing anything... thus my response.

Not sure about the 6-spd owner's manual, but mine states that you can tow in "D" if the transmission isn't shifting excessively. It also states that tow/haul is designed for use when towing heavy trailers. Are you saying that towing/hauling light loads requires tow/haul mode on the 6-spd?

OP here, you all seemed to miss the question. Is the 6 sp an adaptive ECM i.e does it learn your driving habits and will it reset if the battery is disconnected. I know Furds are like that, don't know about GM.

the battery disconnect does nothing like i said ,

yes the transmission learns and adapts for clutch wear and driving habits

fords suck ass ,they have a vacumn system for the 04s 4WD system, very gay

robert,sry i misunderstood your response

alan, for more information ,the service manager may print off a "description and operation" for your tranny.
