Just Bought New Silvy- Dome Light Wont Turn On

Hey guys, I finally picked up my new truck today, 2011 silverado crew cab z71 with appearance package. Love the truck, nicest i've owned so far and this is my first chevy! Only problem I have found with it is the dome light does not light up when I open the doors. The dome light will light up if I turn the knob all the way to the right but not when a door is opened. I even messed with the override switch and it doesn't help. Either way i have it, it will not illuminate the dome light when the door is open. Is there a problem or am I just not doing something right? Please help. Oh, and i'll have pics up shortly!

If the dome override switch won't work I would check back with the dealer. Could be the override switch, wiring, or the door latch switch.

sorry guys i'm retarded. I didn't realized the dome light override was an acutal button, I thought it was the stick that you turn. i feel stupid now but thank god i didn't go back to the dealership! You can call me noob from now on. Love the truck!!

Congrats on the new truck! Did you try opening one door at a time to see if any of the doors will trigger the light? If none of them will make the light come on, I'd agree with 8.1HD and say you have a bigger issue, possibly with the override switch. I find it hard to believe that all four door latch switches could be bad on a new truck, but I'm sure stranger things have happened. Either way, let the dealer do their job and get you fixed up. Looking forward to the pics!

Yes, it will definitely help if you push the button . That's ok though, I'm sure we've all had those types of "moments" with a new vehicle. Get those pics up here.

I can't believe this silverado is already turning me into a chevy man after only an hour. By the way it's Taupe Gray Metallic with black cloth interior, bucket seats, bose stereo, brake controller and back up camera. So many gadgets to play with tonight! The wife and baby might not see me until morning!

My wife told me her Tahoe had an electical problem because her dome light wouldnt go on. I said "is the dome override button pushed"? Her Whats that. Went out and sure enough she pressed it in

Ya when I bought my truck it didn't have words on the button just a symbol, I had no idea what the hell it was, for a couple weeks.

 

After putting GM fogs in the the new headlight switch has words on it though "DOME OFF" or something?

I don't mean to hijack the thread- I've only briefly ridden in an 07+ truck and one thing stood out that really seemed annoying along these lines- is there any way to activate the cargo lamp and NOT have the domes come on? To me, it can be real hard to see the bed at night if the dome lamp is on too.

I've never been able to figure out why you can push the skinny dimmer knob in and out, it does nothing when you do that, is it just so it doesn't get broken off??

I don't believe so. I know in earlier models there was a separate button for the cargo light, but I'm guessing it was removed due to cost cutting measures. I know my 2011 doesn't have one, as it's one of the first things I looked for. I was a little disappointed because the separate button was always a feature I admired in the GM trucks (I've always had Ford's with the cargo lamp/dome light together), and so I was looking forward to having it in my new truck. But alas, it is gone.
