Brake Lights With Hazards

Is there anyway to wire the hazard lights to where they don't "stick" on when you hit the brakes? I don't know why GM did this, but if you have an emergency or something and need to pull over no one will see your hazard lights when you put your brakes on to stop. This has been bugging me forever, there has to be some kind of fix.

well all cars did that from the 1950s thru the mid 1990s.. except those that had separate bulbs for signals. the point is that if you are driving with the flashers on and press the brake the people behind you know you are braking..

now with the invent of the 3rd brake light and computer controlled lighting, vehicles don't do this, but since you have an older truck with an all in one bulb, unless you break out the circuit you are stuck with it, as it is a safety feature.

I owned a 1996 Silverado like yours, in which I broke the turn signal and hazard circuit out, and put amber bulbs into the reverse light area so I had amber turns in the rear.

I used a second bulb into that area (similar to how police wire a second bulb in for their strobing lights) so my reverse still worked as well..

This wasn't necessarilly a "GM" thing, The reason for the brake lights taking over the four ways is a safety feature, to let drivers behind you know your hitting the breaks, it was for when people hit the four ways, but were in a lane of traffic other than the right hand lane, so others would know to move or slow down. Its odd, but there are ways around, wiring extra lights, etc.

I personally don't care, I just drive it.
