At Tire Opinion Request - Icy, Snowy Climate

Have a Chevy Trailblazer 2003, extended lenth. Do city, highway and of course driving up in the mountains - am looking for a great traction All Terrain truck tire. Do not want to mess with a snow tire, and find a basic all season is not enough. Need a more aggresive tread. Have read and heard good things and mixed reviews on the following - anyone running these and have experience in a climate like this? Ice and snow are big issues in Colorado for about 5 mos per year. Traction is super important.

Looking at:

Michelin LTX A/T 2?

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo?

Kuhmo Road Venture AT KL-78

Nitto Terra Grappler All Terrain?

Anything else I should look at?

Also - am looking for a great warantee (so guessing Discount Tires is my best choice)?

P.S. - Former SUV was an old 4WD Mitsubishi Montero (in this same climate) and I had two full sets of Kuhmos (aggressive ones) on it and that was great over a ten year period - but the Trailblazer is a totally dif type of SUV and handles with a lot of fishtailing, so hoping for input. I drive conservatively, but really need traction in snow and ice and sometimes gravel roads. Granted the Trailblazer has old tires on it and really needs new, aggressive tires - that really grip - hoping not to have to resort to chains if I select the right tire....

Experience? Input? Advice welcome.

the michelin LTX's are expensive, but they are GREAT tires, worth the money.

i had Toyo open country AT's and they were suprisingly really good too.

I love my AT/2's in all of the same conditions that you listed plus, they are all around, the best

truck tire that I've ever owned, period.

Funny how some people like the Toyo's in winter weather. A bud of mine had a set on his HD

and they were down right horrible in the snow. He went with BFG AT's and hasn't looked back.

All personal preference I guess.

i currently made the mistake of getting Goodyear Silent Armors on all 3 of my vehicles.... they are wearing down waaaay to fast on the one truck i drive everyday.

tire performance is OK all around.... my toyos were great in the snow and not bad offroad suprisingly

I heard, he took my advise and is looking to get a set of AT/2's.

yeah its crazy...they are wearing down in the back really fast and in the front the were pretty worn down too..i dont spin the tires anymore then i did with the toyos and the ones i had would pass inspection after i little less then a month.. i went back to where i got them and showed them to the guys and they said its abnormal and gave me 2 free tires...

i had faith in the american goodyear brand but i guess not.... BFG's and Michelins are definatley gonna be my next brand.

For ice, I love my Hankook DynaPro ATM rf10's..... If you have more snow, I would recommend the BFG AT/KO's Excellent self cleaning tread design..... I hear the General grabber at2's are good also

Of those tires, I've only had the Revos. Had them on a Jimmy and my Silverado. Both sets I've had did great in the snow and ice until they got down to about 6/32" of tread. Mine currently have 47,000 miles on them and have about 4/32" left. They're still decent in the rain and great on dry roads, but not so much in the snow. Bottom line is that they're really good for about 35,000 miles in the snow (which is probably pretty good). For the first few winters I hardly ever needed 4wd. Now I need it to get into my driveway which doesn't have much slope. That said, I would buy them again and would still recommend them, but decided to try something different this time around and am putting on BFG AT KOs.

I have them on my 08 Sub LT and have about 40K on them. Here in RI, have had a lot of snow this yr and they still work great. In summer, I deflate em for the beach and no problems either. Great wet traction too.

I had never previously heard of them either, but they are very popular in Europe.

I used to do winter change over (Copper ATR - summer use to winter Blizzaks ) and now I just drive on the WR's. I will probably get 50K on them before a new set is due but I'd go back with these.
