There's for sure no "easy" way .. obviously you can push the button everytime after you start .. but the manueal says it automatically turns on at every start up.. I think it's a matter of finding where the computer says to turn it on, and maybe pull the wire to the circuit, or a programmer if those do that ..

why would you want to permently disable it? what benifit would this provide?

check it there is a fuse for it. maybe if you pull it out it will permanently disable it. I know that is what people do with ABS so should be that same thing kinda

b/c maybe said person is more comfortable making their own decisions, rather than the truck making their decisions for them. They could be used to driving, compensating if you will; for bad situations, and not used to the truck doing all the work. Took me along time to stop pumping the brakes when I got this truck.

hell even if u turn it of it still works a little! I click mine off and half way into a donut it kicked in. So i tried to hold it for 10-15 sec and it said all stability off! Next thing i know i was doing some donuts! hold the button down and see

your problem wasn't traction control, traction control is to prevent wheel spin

what you felt was stabilitrac, the function of stabilitrac is to keep the truck going in the same direction the steering wheel is pointed.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to permanently disable traction control. The only time I turn mine off is when I'm climbing a certain hill on the dirt roads at my hunting camp, it's steep and when wet traction control can hinder forward progress where I could better control it myself.

They could be used to driving, compensating if you will; for bad situations, and not used to the truck doing all the work. Took me along time to stop pumping the brakes when I got this truck.

Easy decision Push the button off when it needs to be disabled.Turn it on when it needs to be in use.

I can you why I want it gone! Heard rumor that STrac will hold the engine RPMs at whatever point they were when it kicks in. Snowed last night so I tried it, sure enough the RPMs don't drop off for several seconds after I lift off the trottle. If you are not ready for it I can see where it can get you into deeper trouble.

i'll add my 2 cents to this:

1. if you permanently disable it and are involved in an accident, chances are the insurance company might not cover it, because you altered the safety feature of the vehicle.

and for those that think, "how would they know" the answer is this, the computer will store an active error code from the network indicating an error from the system, now a days a lot of insurance companies ask for the computer data logs when a questionable accident occurs.. so yeah, it is completely possible for them to know.

2. if you permanently disable it and have a mechanical issue that is related and requires warranty service, your warranty will be voided if it is discovered you tampered with the system, and they will be able to tell the same way as mentioned above.

the vehicle features an off button for when the system needs to be shut down.. I would use that feature as it is intended.. Frankly under normal driving conditions, unless you are driving like an ass you shouldn't even know if/when it is working.. I drive a 1971 Mustang Mach 1, a 1968 Ford Thunderbird, and my 2010 Avalanche, and under "normal" conditions the traction control doesn't hamper my driving..

though the 429 CI Thunderbird V8 is a lot more fun in the rain than the Avalanche...

Plus, if you permanently disabled the system, you'd probably have to stare at the TC light on the dash. Not sure if that would disable with the rest of the system.

Exactly. I used to own a 2003 Avalanche 4x4 and this function was not on the truck. I have grown up driving in nasty weather and have learned or have become accustumed to using the throttle and not the brake to control my vehicle is adverse conditions. I would like to have that ability back, or at least available. Thanks for all the input, this is a great forum. Cheers.
