Oops: Popped Front Driveshaft

Hey guys -

I was attempting to pull my buddy out in this headliner snow storm thats sweeped the nation (he was driving an xterra. ew). While doing so, I heard a real loud *CRACK* and lost my 4WD. So I can only assume its either my transfer case or my front drive shaft. I got under and the exposed u-joint was fine, so its either the forward u-joint or the t-case. APPROXIMATELY how much is this gonna be to fix? Are we looking at sub-500 or 500+ dollars?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, and drive safe

I pulled him out in drive. Why do you ask?

The gears in differentials are cut so they're stronger moving forward than in reverse. In theory it'd be easier to blow a diff yanking someone out in reverse.

Bingo. I was just curious. Hope it's not an expensive fix.
