triplejt Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Hi there, We recently purchased a 2011, 2500 HD Sierra, reg cab, 8' box. The problem we are facing is that once you get up to 80km/hr and the tranny shifts to the next gear, there is a faint vibration felt throughout the truck when ever the trottle is applied. Also there is an audio aspect to it that progressively get louder the harder and longer the trottle is pushed. Again, this is only on the trottle. Now hook up a trailer and go through the same procedure and it feels like your driving down a gravel road. The truck has just over 2000 km on it now. I brought this to our dealers attention and they acknowledge that there is a vibration and associated sound. We washed it to make sure there wasnt anything to unbalance the tires, and same thing happend. They looked it over and couldn't find anything out of place. Told me to 'keep an eye on it' lol. Anyways what they did do was take out another identical new truck from the lot for a test drive and this one did the same thing. Got a phone call with the final answer of 'this is normal, no fix'. Again lol. They shop beside us bought the identical truck so I just took it out for a test drive (600 km on this truck) and found the same thing happening, but not as severe. So I dont know if this 'normal problem' gets progressively worse as the mile are put on. Anyways my thoughts are a potential driveshaft issue but I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this. Thanks Tyler
topdj Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I heard the same noise on a 2011 hd short box crew I took for a ride, it was very faint but I could feel and hear it.
matsrat Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 could it possibly be an exhaust drone? does it go away if you put it into a lower gearand raise the rpms. or is it only at that certain mph. regardless of rpm? sometimes cars/truck do have minor vibrations/shudders/droning at certain rpms or mph and it is normal...it might not be right but its normal. I work at a car dealership and weve had issues w cars/trucks and if you test drive others and they all do it to some degree, it is considered normal. Usually nothing the techs can do to fix. basically a factory flaw/glich. and you just have to live with it. If the manufacturer hears enough complaints they usually will figure out a fix. sometimes not.
triplejt Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Don't think its the exhaust since I only hear it when you hit 80 km/hr. Again it is only when it shifts to the high gear (6th im guessing) and progressily gets worse. I'm thinking its in the tranny myself, almost sounds like a worn out gear set. Our 2009 2500 HD has the same guts as this new truck with out any issues. could it possibly be an exhaust drone? does it go away if you put it into a lower gearand raise the rpms. or is it only at that certain mph. regardless of rpm? sometimes cars/truck do have minor vibrations/shudders/droning at certain rpms or mph and it is normal...it might not be right but its normal. topdj Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I think the new 6 spd in the 2500hd is pretty tough design, I cant see the gear being bad already
SouthCo Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Do a search (i'm too lazy to do it myself) becasue I thought there was a thread a month or so ago about some other 2011 HD's having a similiar issue and it had to do with the brakes I believe.
