mcali17 Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002 OK guys, I have a 2002 GMC Envoy SLE, that is, without the driver information center. I have 3200 miles on the truck, so yesterday I changed the oil for the first time. Am running Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30. The "Change Oil" light was not on, but I always like to change the oil at 3000. But now that I am running the synthetic I will wait for the light from now on. I followed the directions in the owners manual, regarding resetting the Oil Life System. In my owner's manual it reads: 1. Turn Key to Run, without starting the engine. 2. Press Accelerator Pedal Fully three times within five seconds. Now, I did this, but is the system really reset?? Is there no indication that it is really reset. Is there any way to check and see if it is really reset? What do you all think? Thanks.
tblazer503 Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Is that all it said? I thought it was something strange like cycling the ignition switches, then doing the gaspedal w/ the high beams or something strange like that... Honestly, I have mine changed every 5k mi. I use Mobil1 syn blend, and being it into the dealer. every other time... That way, every 10k it gets documented, and the dealer resets it... so far, so good. =oD
mcali17 Posted October 11, 2002 Author Posted October 11, 2002 Yes, that is all it is. Alot of the full size pickups have the same thing. I was just wondering. My Dad is a dealer and my Uncle owns a service station, so I am not going to have the dealer (my father) change my oil. As long as you have your recipts you have documentation. My Uncle's shop has used this procedure to reset the light after it has come on. But if you read the owners manual, it tells you to use this procedure every time you change your oil. I think on the 2003's the light blinks for 5 seconds after you reset it, but not on the 2002's. They must have gotten tired of answering this question and made the change. I was just wondering if anyone else came across this.
02EnvoySLT Posted October 14, 2002 Posted October 14, 2002 There is an easier way to do it Go to the oil life indicator Hold down the Reset button on the steering wheel and it'll go back to 100% oil life. Easier then the 3 pedal reset used for GM cars/trucks
mcali17 Posted October 14, 2002 Author Posted October 14, 2002 02EnvoySLT- Sounds great, but if you re-read my post I have an SLE not SLT and the SLE doesn't have the driver information center. Although I agree that is much easier.
