'02 Silverado P.s. Steering Leaking Everywhere

Just changed the motor oil this past weekend and noticed the steering rack is leaking in two places and the power steering pump is doing the same. The pump looked like the high pressure hose, but the dealer said it was leaking through a seal. To replace both the rack and pump and re-align the front end is going to set me back $1700. This truck only has 70K miles. Are these unrelated issues or is this common problem with these trucks?

Are you sure that the gear is leaking? The pump could leak down onto the gear and make it look like the gear is leaking, just saying.

 

And as for the power steering pump leak, if it is just leaking from the input seal (behind the pulley) then just

replace the seal. It's available from GM and is only approximately $5. Easy to change as long as you have a

power steering pump pulley puller and installer.
