Add 4 Way Plug Capability

This is a way to install a 4 way plug to be able to allow you to still utilize the 7 way on the bumper for uses such as light bars.

I started with a T Connector from Curt, part number 55384. Cost was about $25

I then went under the truck and unplugged the 7 way wire harness behind the rear bumper

I then connected the T connector into the 7 pin on the bumper and the wire harness. I ran the 4 pin outlet to the drivers side and for now until I hook up my light bar have it on the rear bumper

Used some wire ties to secure under the truck and it is good to go

Did the same thing for my lightbar, also spliced into the 12V power on the adapter instead of cutting the factory wires when I added lights to the bed of my truck. Its also a lot easier to cut, strip, solder and waterproof the wires/splice when you can do it at a work bench.

I plan on doing the same once it warms up here and I can install the bar. Did you have to do anything under the hood to send power to the red wire at the adapter?

On the fuse box under the hood I had to attach the red wire to the terminal and add a fuse, let me see if I can find a thread on here that has pictures for you other wise I can take pictures for you when I get home if there is enough day light.

EDIT: Here you go, Connecting 12v Lead For Trailer Harness

Thank you very much! I appreciate it

One more question is there a connection in the T Connector for backup lights? I need to also wire the backup lights in.

There is a pin assignment diagram on the little door you flip up on the 7 way connector on the bumper. If you had a 5 conductor connector instead of the 4 conductor the reverse pin is the top pin or the furthest from the ground pin. The 5 pin versus the 4 pin just adds the backup pin.

I don't know if this helps or not. I know there are diagrams posted here but my searches didn't get good results. :D You might try etrailer.com.

How do you pul a part the wiring harness to the bumper

I would like to add a back up camera and get the power plug

Is just a twist and turn?

I do not want to twist it to hard and break it

it's not twist and turn. It's got clips on it you have to depress to pull it off.

as for identifying the wires, there is a piece of tape on the truck harness that labels what each wire color does.
