Allow myself to introduce...myself.

I come from a GM/Mopar family, but I've never had to work on a GMC pick-up before. My brother-in-law passed away suddenly last July 3 (he was only 34), and he left my sister with a 1998 GMC 2500 4x4 w/5.7 that needs a bit of work. She's not ready to part with any of his belongings yet, so my father and I are going to do what we can to help out. From the size of the community here, this looks like the place to be.

I'll see if I can attach an old pic of my 2 current vehicular toys. Not GM, but I share your passion for all things truck...well...maybe not Fords...

Welcome to the site. I've got no problems with the vehicles in the photos :D

Sorry about your brother-in-law.

Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. What help do you need with the GM?

I appreciate the sympathies from you all. He was a great guy. The cause of his passing was preventable and treatable, had any of us known to get him help. My sister is still having a hard time.

His truck will sometimes start up normally, as if nothing were wrong. Other times, nothing. Zip. No lights, no starter solenoid clicks, no bells, no trouble codes. It will occasionally stumble and quit once warm, but rarely. It may or may not start up again right away. Battery checks out fine per NAPA. Keep in mind, the truck is located in Fairbanks, AK, so it does get cold this time of year, however, it has battery, block, oil pan and trans pan heaters.

I'll post this issue under an appropriate forum heading as well.

Tim
