No Power From Engine

Last night I was out enjoying some unplowed roads and before long I found myself buried pretty good (see below picture LOL). I had a few buddies with me so it was no big deal. However, before getting snatched out of the ditch, I tried drivin 'er out. I was obviously a little rougher on the truck than everyday driving, but nothing I'd even consider to be abuse. Eventually I just got pulled out (I turned away the Cummins dually for the 3/4 ton Duramax haha) and started driving along. When i turned off of the snow covered road and onto decent pavement, my truck lost its balls. The motor would rev to 3k, but I'd hardly be moving and I could hear the exhaust making a very unusual noise. After about 5 miles of easy driving, the truck was right back to normal. Never got an idiot light or anything on the dash. This is the second time this has happened to me, except the first time I was sitting in heavy stopped traffic on a nice clear day this past summer. Went to accelerate around a truck to get to an exit ramp and again, no power. The only thing these two instances have in common is the fact that the truck spent quite a bit of time idling (left it running last night while we were standing out bullshittin and during stopped traffic). I'm not totally sure it doesn't have something to do with the transmission either. For a few days now, every time I shift from P to reverse or any gear, I have to rev the motor to get it to shift and that causes a pretty serious bang when she shifts. Not sure if these things are related, but that's why I'm asking. Sorry for the long read, but the more info, the merrier I suppose.

If these things have a "limp mode" I would suspect that's what it was doing. I just noticed in my 2500HD the tach has no "red line" zone....Kinda surprised me a little. What did the engine/tranny temps look like? If they were hot and there is a "limp mode" that would be my guess. You said it happened once before in heavy traffic....Overheating a little maybe???

Coolant was just a shade under 210, and I quit trying to get out when the trans. got to 150. Definitely nothing out of the ordinary as far as temps go. The trans. has Dex VI in it and has never seen 200 degrees so I'm assuming the fluid in the trans. is fine.

Going by where you live and the small snow fall you got there in the last few days I would be checking your air filter box, filter, and MAF sensor......with the snow that you were going through, you may have forced snow into it and your engine is starved for air.

 

Use to happen to me in a Honda I use to own. Lose of power, everything ran, ideal was normal, but as soon as you hit the gas......did not want to go.

I'll have to do that in the morning. I crashed into a few feet of snow and packed it into the general engine area pretty good. It started running fine after a few minutes which would make sense because the snow would clear out a little bit.

your pcm may have began pulling timing...happens for example to me if i'm in stop and go traffic for awhile..truck revs higher between shifts
