Dash Repair/ Broken Tailgate Latch

Recommended Posts

Picked up and 04 CC that has some dash damage where the previous owner had a GPS mount. When the mount was pulled, the dash paint came off with it..

Any idea on who I can go to for a fix? Ball park on how much it will cost? Damage is probably 3 inches in diameter.

Also, my tailgate latch stopped working. I popped the latch cover off and the right side rod has fallen out of the latch. So its not releasing the lock on the tailgate because its disconnected at the latch.

Problem is the rod refuses to stay connected to the latch. My father says their is supposed to be a plastic keeper on the back side of the rod . Does this sound right? If so, where can I get another?

any descent auto parts store carries them, come in a packet of different types. recommend that you replace both the clips, if one is bad the other will follow. when i did mine, i lubed the latch/rod ends with white grease and haven't had any issues with it..

good luck

Need an image of the dash to give you an idea of what can be done. I was a painter and bodyman for years. ANy shop can repaint the dash pad or you can buy the same paint/dye at a true paint store (not PEPBOYS, AUTOZONE OR the like) and do it your self and save the labor. They also sell carpet pads you can put on top of the dash to cover the pad and the damage that fit well and reduce glare. I have a similar issue from a radar detector that rubbed a bit on the dash and caused the paint/dye to peal in a spot. I can live with it.

The dash pad is not very hard to remove but it is important to really clean it when you get it off to make sure you remove all the armor all and stuff that has been put on it over the years.

P.S. - it is very difficult to scuff and mask off the dash pad if it is still int he truck when you paint it, let alone get the paint in the area near the base of the windshield.

Here are two pics of the damage. You can see the spot where the paint is clearly missing, then you can see the circular area in white where it looks like the gps mount affected the paint somehow...Any ideas guys??

Go to your local auto body supply jobber and get some spray

paint in cans for plastic parts.

SEM is one of the brands that is specifically for plastics.

I am sure they have GM stock colors.

Mask and prep the dash and spray it yourself or send it to a body

shop......................

my 2001 Dodge Dash cracked so I fiberglass patched it, then I painted it with SEM paint. I had a glass shop come out an remove the windshield then reinstall it the next day. That was the best idea I had because it made it easy.
