Exhaust Question

Just bought a used 2007 Sierra classic Z71 crew cab. Truck has plastic bedliner and thats kinda where my exhaust question comes in. If I went with turn downs after the axle how much bed resignation should i expect? My last 03 Sierra I went with flowmasters and put duals out the side in front of the rear tire. I loved the sound but wasnt completely sold on the look. Those are my two options I plan on going back to either duals out the side or dual turn downs. Anybody got any suggestions or opinions that may help my decision making process.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site and congrats on the new truck. I'm a big fan of Corsa, Borla or Magnaflow. And I personally like the look of duals out the rear.

x2 on the Magnaflow and on the duals. I going to hack off my Flowmaster and turndown once my Magnaflow and tailpipe get here. I hate turndowns. They make my head throb, especially in close quarters like freeway traffic. Im gonna go back with a single 3" in the factory configuration behind my new Magnaflow muffler.

Yeah, if you want max flow and max noise. Ive never been a fan of glasspacks because of the loud popping sound they produce. I like tone. But to each his own.

Spintech make really good flowing mufflers, but I dont think they are street legal.

If i didn't get the flowtech purple hornie glasspack i would have gotten the Flowtech warlock i stick with Flowtech exhaust parts.Purple hornies aren't that loud.Until you take off the cat.People hear "glasspack" and automatically think noise, popping, raspy None of which i have at all i also have the high flow cat and its very mellow, very throaty, and crisp. No poppiing or any other unwanted noises.BUT when i floor it..Its a COMPLETELY different story.

Sound is relative too. I like a nice mellow nearly stock rummble at idle, and a nice growl under load. But thats just me. I like it quiet so I can slip into the woods during deer season. I guess what Im saying is, my loud may not be loud to you.

Not trying to disrespect anyon or their choice in muffler or anything else. I just thought Ide throw that out there.

Try to add a X pipe or H pipe if you are running true duals. X pipe is preferred if possible. It will help equalize the the two banks and help with drone and the sound.

I agree, I had an '84 K5 Blazer with a crate motor 350 in it that I ran 2.5" pipes straight back from the headers, equalized with a 1.75" H bar, 24" glass packs, and ultimately ran straight out the back to 3.5" angle cut tips. It definitely was loud when you romped on it, but it had a very nice low, even, deep tone even at idle. It was known to set off a few car alarms! The H bar or X bar made it sound so much better. A buddy of mine was also running true duals with 24" glass packs and no H or X bar and his sounded crackly and poppy at high rpms.

Ive heard that H pipes are better for low end torque, and X pipe increase top end pickup. Supposedly H pipes equalize exhaust preassure, while X pipes increase scavenging draw on each side. Dont know if its true or not.
