2011 Gmc 2500 Hd Height Difference

While I wait for my 2011 2500 Denali HD, I was looking for what is the difference in height from front to back on these trucks are. Looking to make a decision on adjusting the front 1"- 1 1/2" up or installing a leveling kit, keeping in mind I will be towing a 10K lb RV this summer.

I'm going to ask the dealer to do this for me, just have them crank the bars and realign

Why would you want to just crank the bars ?!?!? That is not the proper way to do this. The shock absorbers do not has enough travel once you crank the torsion bars and you'll be bottomng them out (thats where the harch ride comes from when people do this)since you have effectively "stretched them" by lifting the front of the truck higher. At the very minimum you need a leveling kit that has a bracket for the shoccks that moves the bottom mounting point higher to avoid destroying the shocks, and to properly do this, reindexing the keys so you are not just crakning the bars is also a must. It is well worth the 150 dollars or so for a little piece of mind.

Here's a pic of an example from tuff country

I just stopped at the dealers service they do up to 1.5"and align without any issue. he says they will not go any father than that, due to the shock running out as you described , he also asked me if I planed on going off road if so he did not recommend more then 3/4" increase.

I might buy the shock extensions mysefl

You could turn them up, you could change the keys but, by putting more load on the bars, you typically increase the stiffness of the ride as well.

Typically the difference in height between the front and rear is around 2 inches, possibly more or less. If you are willing to go beyond 1.5", a Cognito Upper Control Arm leveling kit would keep the torsion bars where they are, and level the truck at the same time.

the dealer also asked me if I plan on carrying 500-1000 lbs in the bed more then 50% time and if I did he said I would not need to level it as the weight would bring the trucks front end up as designed.

my dealer leveled , aligned and put 3m stick on weights inside my forged rims for $0

I mentioned me and my brother bought over 110k in trucks since 2007 and he is coming in next week for another.

Also my friend I sent them bought a 2011 Denali duramax too

well its done and it looks good and level now about 1 1/2" as I measured before and after. Plus I like not seeing the wheel weights :dunno:

Picked up my bed mat, my colored mudflaps and my bed rail protectors. Too bad its too cold to put them on.

You going to like the color matched mud flaps, they fit perfect, look factory and do a great job. One of the best upgrades available at a decent cost.

Changing the key or turning them up a bit does not change the load on them. It should not change the ride stiffness either (unless you go too far and start hitting the limits). The weight of the truck is what loads the torsion bars.

Of course, you ARE changing the "normal" position the suspension is in and could encounter problems as mentioned, such as shocks and hitting the bumpstops earlier...

just my opinion...

and don't forget to adjust the headlights as needed.
