86 Chevy K10...idle Problems

It has a Holley I believe 650 carburateur on it 4barrel....

 

It idles...fine once warmed up...In Park...maybe a little to fast...but as soon as you go to Reverse or Drive....she just Lugs out bad....IF you don't get on the gas quick she will Spitter Sputter out and die.....

 

Any Ideas...an Adjustment??...

 

Stop lights..are fun one foot on the brake...and the throttle quarter down :lol:

I'd check out your timing. It might be a little to far retarded to keep it running. I have an old '76 that I've had this problem. Also make sure your vacuum lines are still holding. If you have a vacuum leak your engine won't always run right either.

Check out the dis cap on my 90 sierra it idled rough and popped alot until i timed it and replaced the dis cap.now it runs so much smoother and actually sounds extremely strong now

Set timing first. Check initial and total.

 

If the carb hasn't been gone through in a while, the air bleeds are probably plugged. Try turning the idle mixture screws in and see what happens. The engine should start to stumble when you get to 1/2 turn out, from the lightly seated postion, on both screws. A good baseline

setting, on those screws, is 1-1/2 turns out from the lightly seated position. Notice, I said "lightly". The needles on the ends of those screws

are easy to break off in the carb passage and the carb passage itself can be damaged easily too, if you reef them down too tight. When they

stop with light hand torque, stop turning.

 

Also, depending on carb model, you could have a power valve out of it too.
