Vibration From Play In The T-case To The Rear Drive Shaft

Hey everyone,

I have a 2002 K2500HD 150K miles. It has the 6.0 engine and 4L80E Transmision and the Transfer Case Model 263 HD. I recently went through the entire hole in the transfer case due to "pump rub". However I thought that the leak was coming from the mating surfaces of the cases themselves. When I resealed the cases I unbolted the 2 halves of the t-case, never taking it completely off/out of the transmission. In resealing the cases all went well but now 1 week later I have picked up a vibration from about 70mph and faster. The vibration proceeded to get worse and I began to feel a clunk when stopping. I thought the trans mount was shot but upon further investigating I found the actual problem is slop in the rear output transfer case shaft. Basically I can grab the drive shaft and move it around. So that being said, What parts do I need? And obviously when you read this you will see by the dates that I only found out about the "pump rub" today. Therefore when I repair the vibration I will also be instailling the "case saver" and possibly welding the case vs the 2 part epoxy. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated

Thank you,

Jason

When I had a similar vibration, it was the U-joint on the driveshaft that you say you can grab and move around. I ended up replacing both, and problem was solved.....in my case at least. If it is the U-joints, the factory ones have to use a torch to melt the plastic that holds the ends of the U-joint together.

Good luck! Post up some updates when you get them.

Definatly not the universals, I can grab the slide yolk and wiggle it. I can see the movement and hear the clunking sound in the case.

I have not fixed the issue yet. Here's a video of my issue, found it on youtube.

I'm having the same kind of vibration in my 03 2500hd. I'm under the impression that I have a drivshaft problem and the vibration from it is wearing out the output bushing in the rear of the t-case? Don't know for sure, but I'm looking into getting a new driveshaft, and then a new output bushing. Let me know if you figure it out.

I have the exact same problem and also searching for info repairing it..... 03 with 10600 miles...... If you get any info on this let me know and if I find anything out anything I will let you know also.........

I have the same vibration on my 03 2500 HD. I just replaced the transfer case with a rebuilt one. The vibration has gotten better, but it is still there. Before the swap out, I had alot of "play" in the drive shaft/transfer case. It did seem like most of it was in the transfer case and I had the hole in the case anyways, so change out was needed. I am going to do the U-joints next and see if that fixes the problem.

Pull the t case out and put it together correctly on the bench. By doing it in the truck you may not have gotten the transfer case rear output shaft bearing seated properly which would cause the shaft to have excessive play.
