Are Chev And Gmc Boxes The Same On Nbs? (07 & Up)

Hi All

 

I have a truck cap for sale that is currently on my Silverado (6'6") box.

 

A guy came to look at it yesterday and said that it was too bad that he had a GMC (6'6" box) b/c it wouldn't fit on.

 

Is this guy on crack or are sheetmetal parts now different on the Chev/GMS in the new body stlye?

 

If so, no wonder they were having trouble a few years back, imagine the cost of setting up plants to make 2 different but nearly identical boxes!

 

 

I will change my ad to read chev only if I find out it will only fit on Chevs.

Yes, indeed I believe they are different. I honestly am not 100% sure but when I have ordered tonneau covers for work, they are different PN's and I remember others saying the same thing

I wondered how the worlds largest mass producer of vehicles stumbled, now I know. It was because their 2 pickup lines were not identical.

I sold a cap that came on my 2008 silverado to a guy with a GMC. The dimensions of the rails and such were the same. The only real difference that I could tell in the quick 5 minutes he was still at my house was that the gap between the cap and the rear window wasn't even. Made it look a little out of place but for what he was using it for he didn't mind.

I know I just found one for mine same color but its a 06 I think, I wasn't going to leave it on all year but for 100.00 how can I go wrong. it has a 3 brake light but needs new lift rams but who cares Id use it a few times a year

I thought the outside sheet metal was the only thing different. Like the flares and brake light holes.

 

The cabs are identical, so its only minor sheet metal that is different.

There has to some minor difs as the bed covers for each are different numbers.
