Trip to denver over the weeknd...

Went to Denver Friday... Filled up here in Las Cruces and drove 370 miles to Las Vegas, NM (yes, NM) I had my exhaust unbolted, and was pleased with right at 19mpg; running 80-85 the whole time... Not bad I dont guess... Went the rest of the way (Vegas to Denver) and with some in town driving before I filled up to leave Sunday (exhaust still unbolted) I got around 17mpg... Bolted my exhaust up right before I left and drove all the way from Denver to Santa Fe (388 miles) at around 85-92mph... Filled up In Santa Fe and checked my mileage... Barely 15mpg Then From Santa Fe to Las Cruces, 290 more miles... I averaged 14.5mpg running 85-90 again...

Nothing like seeing what a large vehicle can do when out on the open road.

??? I guess even though my truck is the smallest fullsize truck GM has, its still a fullsize, huh??

Bone stock:  My 4.8 regularly gives me 17 on the hwy @ 80 - 85 mph.  I have gotten in the low 20's before when I was forced to keep it around 70-75.

 

When you say exhaust disconnected...could you describe better what you mean?  Do you mean "cut out" upstream of the catalytic converter?

 

I am curious...I am already pleased with the performance of my truck.  But when I go to replace the muffler....I may just put a set of duals on it to see if mileage gets even better!
