Step Bars Ideas ?

For everyone who has step bars, do you mind saying what brand and size you went with , and post a pic if it's not already in your sig ...

I have a black ext cab long box, and I'm trying to decide what kind of step bars to get .. which ones are the best ? does stainless really never rust ? If I buy black ones, will they rust ?

I have the Westin Platinum Oval Stainless Steel cab length steps, I will have to post a picture when I get home. I like how the ends are finished off with a bend that goes under the truck and the oval ones give a little more room on the foot pad with out looking thick.

I'm looking at getting them myself. I am definitely going to go with a wheel-to-wheel bar because I like the look. Might look a little much on a long box, though.

Here are a couple of ideas for you. I am still trying to decide between the Raptor Magnum 5" which is like a traditional step-bar and the GoRhino Dominator III which have the step-rings that loop below the bar. I'll probably go with polished to try to match my chrome bumpers.

Hope that helps!

I went with the ionic voyager step bars. They are a clone of the OEM 6 inch steps, but are much less $$$. They look identical other than the mounting hardware but mount the same way and are very sturdy. They've only been on the truck a couple of months, but look great through a couple months of salt. You can usually find them on ebay for around $300 or at Running Board Warehouse for a little more. If you've seen the OEM steps, you've seen how these look as well. Here's a picture of them on my truck.

I just put on Westin Platinum 4 in Ovals. I really like the way they look. I bought them from streetsideauto for $183. Mine are black. I will have to take pics if it ever stops raining!

I like the factory set up. Get the ones you can afford. I prefer ovals on a modern truck. Good luck!

I decided to get Nasta polished SS 3" step bars, since they come with all SS mounting hardware / brackets and they come with a lifetime warranty. I have not put them on the truck yet, due to weather here has not been cooperating and I have a home remodling project going on right now. The finish of these bars looks very nice and the SS brackets are very heavy duty and I believe these bars are rated to hold 350lbs before flexing.

Thanks for all the help / ideas .. I really like the larger oval ones .. specially with the straight bar , the ones that DON'T turn into the truck on the ends but rather are just straight ...

I had Back Country black nerf bars (not stainless steel) and they rusted out after 5 years. They were rated at around 300lbs. My dad and brother decided to jump on one at the same time and it held 500lbs.

I replaced them with black stainless steel nerf bars from Summit Racing. I got them on sale for $185. I live close to one, so I just stopped on my way home from work. I like them and they seem as strong as the Back Country bars. They mount to the frame at the cab mounts.

I have a set of the Ionic nerf bars and now about 8 months later I am still happy with them. I went with these models because I wanted black nerf bars, and couldn't get the Voyager model in black.

Sorry I still ahven't taken any better pictures!

Thanks for the help.. I tried to go with the ionic voyager but I could not find them for an Extended cab .. I found other ionic ones that would work for extended cab but in the end I found some SS 5" oaval ones on ebay that I think I'll be happy with ..
