2-3 Shift Noise 2009 Sierra 5.3l/6spd Help!

Ok here's my truck info:

2009 GMC Sierra 2wd, reg cab, long box, 5.3L, 6spd auto. 24,000 km.

It happens when trucks's dead cold, or warmed up, even after truck being driven for a 2hr trip.

When the trans shifts from 2-3, i head this short "uurt" like a little "mid pitched grunt" almost a small quick vibration. It is louder and more easily heard when pulling away slowly, and the 2-3 shift is about 1500rpm. the shift feels normal, not too soft, and not too hard, but it makes this friggin' noise only at the 2-3 shift! :(

Truck just started doing this, last week, never did it before, and I've owned this truck since it was new.

The noise is less audible if I'm harder on the throttle, but I can still hear it when the 2-3 shift happens.

This noise is not present at any of the other shifts, and every shift feels normal. No flair, or slip etc on any shift, even when the noise happens, the shift feels normal.

Please HELP!!!!! :spam: I've searched the web far and wide, but can't seem to find any info on it. You guys are my last chance. I love this truck, and I plan on keepin' her for long, long time, so I just gotta get it figured out.

Thanks, in advance fellas. I'm glad to have found this forum, looks like a great bunch of guys on here. :spam:

With the 5 year 100000 mi warranty let the dealer worry about it.

Yeah, the dealer here in my town is a friggin' joke to say the least.

Not as a last resort would I take it there. If it's not a simple fix, I can perform myself, I'll end up taking it to one of the bigger dealerships in the bigger cities about an hour from here. I thought I'd try seeing if any of the fellas on here have had anything similar before.

Our dealership here is a 4 bay joke, with 4 techs that are a friggin' joke aswell. I would'nt let them fix my lawn mower, a problem like this will turn into a mess, it's well over their head. I'd be surprised if they have a full set of teeth between em'.

Thanks, Steve-O.

Well you certainly do not want to tamper with the 6L80E its complex and under warranty take it to a reliable dealer.

I have been reading about a 2-3 shift "clunk" people are having, and greasing their slip yokes? Why would this clunk only occur on the 2-3 shift, and not the 1-2, or 3-4, 4-5, 5-6?

I'm wodering if I might have this happening? might not be a trans issue?

Thanks, Steve-O.

I didn't think it was possible to get a 6 speed in anything but a crew cab in 2009

Ditto.

Really? I was sure I had the 6 speed trans? I was sure I could feel 5 shifts?

Is there any markings, etc, so I could be completely sure that I have the 6spd, or the 4 spd?

Thanks for input fellas, It's very appreciated. This site Rawks! :D Steve-O.

4 spd shift cluster: PRND321

6 spd shift cluster: PRNM

Those "shifts" are probably the TC locking/unlocking plus the actual gear changes, which varies with load/speed and going up or down gears.

Pretty sure he meant 1500's... I know I did. Yup, the HD's got 6-spds as early as 2006 (8.1L).

yep, he stated 5.3 so it had to be a 1500 series. Of course he stated Sierra so I knew it was a truck, HD is a totally different animal.
