Transmission Surge/chuggin

Hi all, just noticed this problem yesterday while towing 2 sleds on a trailer with another in the back of my truck. Around 65-80 km/hr when the truck shifts to 4th gear it chugs. Jerking the whole truck like a hesitation but worse. Even does this empty as well. As soon as it drops to overdrive it chugs, after 80km/hr its fine. Also if you drop it to 3rd or push trailer tow button its fine. Truck has 162kms on it and the fluid is a little brownish but doesnt smell burnt? Any ideas? Would a trans fluid change help?? Checked for codes? Brownish fluid?

i would first change the trans fluid, then clean your MAF real good. dirty MAF can cause trans issues also. see if that helps, and check for codes..

There is no check engine light??? if there is no light does it still throw codes?? Do i need a code reader??

No codes if no lights on the dash. Could be the trans fluid. I'd have it flushed with a BG System Flush. How many miles on the truck?

Should not be the gear ratio, as it just started happening whether towing the sleds or not.

flushes and oil /filter changes dont fix anything ,

Ok, so took it in to a local transmission shop here and was told, the torque converter failed. Also it threw shavings into the valves (3) So it has to rev up in order to build enough pressure to move. Once pressure has built up its in gear solid both in forward and reverse. So I was told its gonna be between 1700-2100 to rebuild it. What should one do when rebuilding to beef it up. I do moderate towing and would like this not to happen again. The truck threw no codes as he put the scanner on it as he test drove it. It also has 162000 km on it.

Well the torque converter is what I was leaning towards. I guess it's good you found out before the trans exploded and the repair bill is alot worse. I'd suggest installing a trailblazer torque convert since it has a little higher stall along with upgrading the sun shell and bands.

If your trans guy is any good, he'll know what to do to beef it up
