Different Leaking Fluids

Would I need to replace my steering box because it is leaking around the shaft? It isn't much more than ~ 1/4 cup every 3k-6k miles or just wait for it to fail?

 

I also have a leaking tranny line but want to know if the external trans coolers are put on using hose clamps (not the factory looking compressed type.)

 

And lastly I am leaking coolant from behind the water pump but its not pump itself (i think) but maybe a gasket. Is this common on the 03 5.3L?

Sounds like water pump gaskets. Common

 

Factory auxiliary coolers do not use hose clamps on the connections. They use the same connector as the connections at the radiator.

Ok sounds like they cob jobbed it, typical from these fly bye dealers . That must be why I got a "Good Deal" on this truck.

 

I was thinking it was a gasket. Is one brand gasket better than the rest? I was looking at the felpro gaskets.

 

What about the steering gear box? Its leaking onto my control arm but its not spueing, I do get some rattling noise and slight squeaking but I think that is more because of the intermediate shaft and the rubber boot. I feel like this truck is going to fall apart on me lately. No wonder this 8 year old truck has 45k miles on it.

You didn't say if it was the input or lower seals leaking on the gear. The lower steering gear seals are very easy to replace. The input is a little more involved to repair.

Unfortunately it is the upper input seal (where the steering shaft connects.)
