Voided Warranty?

Upon reading my warranty information it states that a vehicle's warranty can be voided if maintaince is not done by a certified service tech. I am thinking of taking my new truck to the chevy dealership to be serviced (oil change) because of this. My question is why? I have always done it my self or the local small town service station. I was also told that the dealership will update your vehicles maintenance online with the warranty company and that all work done to the vehicle can be viewed by me as well as them. Is this correct?

the dealer or manufacturer cannot void your warranty if you don't use the dealership, it's against the law, read up on the Magnuson-Moss law.

they CAN request to see receipts if you don't use a dealership and if you can't provide them, they CAN deny warranty claims, but they cannot legally void the warranty unless they can PROVE neglect was the cause of the failure.

if you choose to change your own oil, keep the receipts of the purchase, and note the oil change information in the owners manual (there is a spot in the back of the book), do it for any maintenance you do yourself
