MUHSFINK Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 So I took my 2008 GMC Sierra in for a basic oil change (got Mobil-1 syn.) and the tech pulled the codes and said that I had a "aftermarket air sensor" and that it had failed and that I had dirt in the intake. He said that it wasn't a problem in terms of reliability but it does seem to be a bit quieter. I also have the GMPP air intake. Even with this mod it feels a bit more refined than before. I also had a very hard shift from 1-2 and since they replaced the sensor the lurch is basically gone. Overall I love it but i was curious if anybody had heard of any type of aftermarket air sensor. I always thought that those were pretty much untouchable... Cheers
DwayneJ Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Mass Airflow Sensor(MAF)? If so the aftermarket ones are garbage. There is also an Air Intake Temp sensor(IAT)

DwayneJ Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Aftermarket MAFs lie to the pcm about airflow, they are a bad thing. For LESS money you can reprogram the pcm to do what you want instead of trying to change it's commands by missreporting information to it.
MUHSFINK Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 I'm thinking it might be blackbear time! The truck seemed to have much more intake noise with the junk aftermarket sensor. But it drives wayyy smoother.
