Here's a shot I took of the space shuttle Endeavor launching on November 14, 2008. It's a 55 second exposure of the launch taken from the Kennedy Space Center visitor's complex.

I've got tickets to see Endeavor launch again next week and if I get another winner I'll be sure to post it.

As promised, here are a few pics from Endeavors launch yesterday. It was an amazing launch. There's only one left and I highly recommend getting down to Florida to see it if you can.

Jeebus. You rocking a 1200mm lens or what?

Wow. Thanks, everyone. I'm surprised how well they came out too. Luckily it was early in the morning and the Florida haze hadn't formed yet.

I wish I had one of those giant lenses. I did see quite a few of them there, though. These were taken with my 3 year old Canon Rebel XSi with just the cheapo Canon 55-250mm lens zoomed all the way out. To be fair, I did crop the images. The last two were actually both cropped from the same shot. When I get home tonight, I'll upload some more and add a link to the web album.

I really like the shots of the cars with the blurred backgrounds. That takes a steady hand to move with the car and keep it focused.

UPDATE: Here is the LINK to the larger uncropped images.

Yeah. That's a good one too. I was under the clouds so it was nice to see the rest of the launch :)

Somewhere there's a video of a launch a few years ago from a plane. It's amazing how fast it goes by.

Panning isn't that hard when the cars are going right by you (I'll post a few of those here)...But this past weekend I was trying my hand at it when the cars were coming at me. WAY more difficult to get it right. I had a lower shutter actuation/keeper ratio than I've ever had. And I was using L glass too.

These were taken a month ago with mere mortal glass:

This one is just cool because he's sliding sideways a bit and there are cop cars behind him. :dunno:

Here's a question I was wondering about. I use a Nikon D70s and have the camera set on the middle setting for picture quality. This and most upload sites will only accept 1MB pics maximum and most of mine are more than that. Is there a way to get these pics to upload?

Don't upload them to any forum. They're going to be very restrictive when it comes to server space/member allotment for images. Upload them to Photobucket or Flickr or some other hosting site. Most of them will shrink/resize your image for you. Not as good as you can do yourself at home...But they'll do it.

I use Google Picasa to manage my photos. It's free and pretty good. With every Google email account, you have 1GB of storage that can be used for web photo sharing among other things. When I upload the photos through Picasa, it asks me what size to upload and it will shrink them to save space. Once it's uploaded, you can pick a smaller size or uploaded size to generate a link that can be embedded here or other forums.

Does that make sense?

Hey...thanks to both of you for your advice....I have a Flickr account but have never really used it. Every time I get in there, I can spend hours looking!

I had to upgrade my Photobucket account to a Pro account due to a lot of gifs and me being in an attention whore contest on another website...Blew my bandwidth for the month on a free account in half a day

But now, I can upload ginormous images, huge file sizes, and have no bandwidth limitations. So I'll use it for the rest of the year I paid for, then switch back to Flickr...Mainly because Flickr is about the best there is for the way they can keep the images true to what you upload, quality and color wise...Photobucket slightly alters my pictures where they look a little green...And they degrade 'em a bit.

I like flickr because it seems it doesnt reduce the pictures that much vs photobucket. Can't speak on the google or any other media uploading site. All my pictures uploaded here are from Flickr.
