Reattach Side Moldings

Recommended Posts

My drivers side molding is bent and coming off the drivers side door. Its on an angle from the door, but not perminantly bent.

I was going to apply a little heat to it, and some type of sticky material to the molding and body and reattach it.

Anyone have experience with a good product to reattach the side moldings ?? 3M Double sided tape ??

Hi Matt,

I had the same trouble with the side moulding on my 2003 Silverado.

3M makes an "insignia tape" and it's available at most auto stores. It's a two-sided tape and it works great. Clean both the moulding and the paint with an alcohol wipe, wait for both to dry, attach the tape to one surface and PRESS.

Regrettably, I eventually had to re-register .... so I now have 4 posts and am a newby.

Frankly, I'm kinda wondering if it's worth the effort. Now most of my friends on this web site will no longer recognize me.

Honestly, it SUCKS.

Are you already out of your 3YR/36K bumper-to-bumper GM warranty???

Happened on my 11... the only permanent fix was to completely remove it, clean all the old tape off and reinstall with new 3m tape. the dealer tried putting small pieces on where it was coming off and they never held.... I just fixed it myself....

some guys around here just remove them all together.... makes it look like a work truck to me...

There is a adhesion promoter for the 3M tape to it makes the 3M tape stick even better but with it you have one shot , once the tape touches where the promoter is its there for good no second chances

http://3mcollision.com/products/adhesives/primer-adhesion-promoters/3m-automotive-adhesion-promoter-sponge-applicator-packet-06396.html

you can use it on the plastic moulding and the truck , on the truck tape off the area around the moulding as to not get it on the paint that is seen as it will leave a residue that won't come off
