Hey guys, my 2003 Sierra 2WD Ext. Cab SLE with 5.3L V8 has 222,000kms on it presently.

I have decided to keep her for the long haul. I am seeking on advice to keep her going say another 100,000km (60,000 miles).

Is there anything I should do with this truck to keep her healthy and reliable?

Also I would like to have two sets of tires, a good set of all seasons and a dedicated set of snow tires. I was thinking I may be able to find some sets of tires from Costco. What tires work well on our trucks, or mine for that matter?

Thank you very much for your time, I do appreciate it.

Sincerely,

DD :)

PS-I also have a 1997 Buick LeSabre with 379,000 kms with the 3.8L V6....any advice for this car too? She's still going....lots of oil changes from Costco and Castrols GTX! I have Bridgestone Blizzaks for winter tire use up here in Canada.

I would say just keep repeating the services at the recommended intervals that are in the vehicles manual. Dont go with the cheap fluids and if you havnt you may want to switch over to "high milage" oils/fluids at your next changes. Also your right foot is a good way to limit wear and abuse, especaly on vehicles that are getting up there in age and miles.

From what I read a handfull of these 4-spds dont hold up too well at high miles (but there are plenty out there that do) so like said above, maintain it and treat it right and she will keep working for you. 222,000km is about 137,000mi id say she can do the extra 60k you want out of her. But expect to come across possible costly repair such as fuel pump or water pump etc. But if the truck is paid off its still saving you money.

PS those 3.8 V6s go forever.

I'm only a few hundred miles from 180,000 miles on my '03 Tahoe. She still runs great. I'd just keep up with normal maintenance. I change the oil about every 4-5k miles, and about every 3 years I have the cooling system, transmission and brake system flushed. I had the power steering system flushed once about 5 years ago. I don't flush that every 3years.

your not alone with keeping your vehicle. i bought mine used and shes paid for this coming summer... cant wait.. to me its money in the bank.. I do my own maintenance on it and its doing well. she has the typical cold startup pistonslap/knock but i let her run for like a min then put her in drive and go. id say run her till the wheels falls and put them back on and drive it for another 200k! i mean i look at it, if it last you that long and you love the truck why not go for them miles again.. welcome to the high milage club... im pussing 200k on the 03! :)
