Do I Need The Original Rear Shackles For Towing?

My 2008 GMC SLT 1500 has been modified with lowering shackles in the rear.

I bought the truck to pull a 5k + lb travel trailer.

 

The weight distribution hitch I use, keeps the truck level, but I wonder if I should replace the lowering shackles with originals?

What brand are they? Al long as they have good quality bushings in them and the welds look good I wouldn't worry about it. You do have the closed side of the shackle facing the rear of the vehicle? If that side faces the front of the vehicle the leaf will contact it when under load.
