Front Frame Guards?

what are the green parts called and what is their reason for existing? i am going to install a front reciver hitch and would like to cut them off. my light bar already mounts to the tow-hook bolts and i have a reciver that mounts where the green parts are. i ended up with a reciver hitch for a 25 or 3500 truck that must not have those parts. if they are just for protection i will remove them, as the reciver should protect and strengthen the front horns. 129_0611_07_z%20gm_trucks%20frame.jpg link for bigger picture: http://blogs.cars.com/.a/6a00d83451b3c669e...9d731970b-800wi

I don't remember what they are called, but if you are in a frontal impact with a car that has a sloped front end(which most have) , these doohickeys will grab the sheet metal and prevent our big trucks from riding up and over it.

Vehicle Compatability Brackets if I remember correctly, and yes you are right that is exactly what they do...I don't know if I'd remove them or not, however it sounds like you are bolting something to the frame which may work in a similar manner if anything were to ever happen...
