Temperature Control Panel

I have a 2011 Silverado LT 2wd 5.3 engine. It is not as easy to adjust the air direction while driving as in MOST cars or trucks that I have been in. I find that I have to take my eyes off the road to push buttons to see where the air is going to come out. Not liking this type of control panel at all. If there was a way to have GM swap it out for a simple rotary type control knob I would. Other than that I really like the truck. I would appreciate any comments/advise good or bad about what I have whinned about. Thanks

You won't be able to switch it. How lon have you had the truck for? I thought it was weird too but now it's second nature to me. Just another system to get used to.

I get what Wade is talking about. I've got four vehicles that I regularly switch between (plus a lot of rentals when I travel for work) - many times, I wish there was a knob for temperature, a knob for fan speed, and some easy method of directing the air flow. I've wound up at night in a rental car fumbling with the environmental controls more times than I care to admit - when all I wanted was some warm air out of the damn thing. When I've driven my wife's new Toyota Highlander Hybrid, just locating the defroster and defogger forced me to pull over and hunt for the buttons. I've finally gotten used to my truck, but really do understand the issue - complexity for complexity's sake is a waste.

I rent 20-30 cars a year and granted there are obviously some repeats in there but as far as electronic systems go, the one in the trucks is about as simple as can be. The worst offenders are some Nissans and Hondas where the radio and HVAC are essentially the same unit. Just row after row of buttons! :(

I purchased the truck in Early April. Trade a Ram for it and was very comfortable with the controls in the Ram. I was hoping that the controls would come second nature in this Silverado. Like what 20Silverado11 said when I need the defrost now because the window is fogging and I am in traffic, its difficult at times to find exactly what I want when I need it the most. Thanks for the replies. Wade

you know a lot of guys want to have the auto controls that you have, but is almost impossible to switch to those if you have the manuals, also I have the auto and it is so easy to set (I love this feature), even in traffic, so I guess is going to take you some time to get used to them that is all.
