Chevy 402

Hello again, its been some time since i have posted but im back and with a question! my question what can a 402 be taken to? i heard that all it is is a 396 with a bigger bore but im coming here cause i know a lot of you will know! the reason i ask is because i just got one for free it does not run but it is in good shape to rebuild and im thinking about dropping it in my 68 anything that you can tell me will help out a lot, thank you much!

I did some research over at Team Chevelle and found out that if its a factory 402, there are pistons available upto .060.

Do you know anything about what car it came out of?

i do not at this time, I,m still waiting to get it, over all I'm just wondering if I'm better off getting a 454 or if the 402 will be good enough i have heard stories about this motor being a great motor but it really depends on what it come out of so i have been told, this will be going into a 68 GMC 2500, a lot is going to be changing on this truck i have gutted the interior and its will be visiting the painter for a basic black primer job untill im ready for the real paint job thank you for the information as i gain more info on the motor i will let you know right now im starting to think a 454 would be better

It depends what you are going to use the truck for, a hot street truck, a show truck, a pulling truck each one could benifit from different things. Saying that if you are wanting something to drive and use I say go with the 402, if you are going to pull a lot go with the 454, if you want a hot rod, take 454 bore it out up to I think a 582, but it will be hard to drive on the street. Not saying you can't drive it on the street but you will be taking a chance. Hope this helps.

When you say i will be taking a chance is it because it will over heat fast? what im wanting to build is a street/strip motor i want to drive it from time to time (when i can pay for the gas in it) and also go out to the strip and have fun, when it somes to big blocks im am in the dark to be honest and so far all the information that you all have givin me has been very helpful! but in any case let me know what you think i should go with at this time, 454, 402 or something else i just want my truck to haul arse when i want it to and still be able to drive it from time to time, thanks again for all of your help and information!!
