Well my 2006 malibu has 77000 miles on it. I want to keep the car in good shape and have been thinking of doing some maintenance to keep her running good. I have done tons of research regarding just dropping the pan and changing part of the fluid as well as the filter, or just doing a total flush. Of course I was just looking at the owners manual and it says to do it at 50,000 miles. With that said I still feel like I need to do something. I am going to change the air filter and replace the spark plugs. I just want the car to last about 2 more years, with as little as possible out of pocket (getting ready to have my first baby and won't be able to afford a lot of problems). So what should I do, just change the filter and put some new fluid in, or do a total flush?

do the pan and filter. If you do a flush it will be toast. Doing pan and filter only replaces some of the fluid. THIS IS ACTUALLY GOOD. The flushes put all new fluid in and it is too much detergent for the system. It will break the buildup off the walls of the torque converter and mess everything up. Just do pan and filter every 50k, just like the manual says, and you'll be great. If a flush was better that is what the book would say to do.
