Question Or Rant?

Last week I bought a Silverado WT with the LS Package, 4.8 V8, Power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise, CD and etc. A pretty nice truck IMHO. I've added some things to it, homelink from Schrams, Spray-In bedliner, Floor Carpet, exhaust tip and some other junk. Wheels or on the list.

Since I've had it, I wondered why the headlight switch knob on the left side of the steering column didn't have the bright ring around it like the knobs on the right side do. Yesterday while skulking around the dealers inventory, I noticed that that knob switch on the LT trim model does have the bright ring. I went to parts and asked if I could buy the ring. Of course you cant, you must buy the whole assembly. I obtained the PNs for both switch assys. I searched the internet when I got home. I found out When you buy them from a GM source they are only a $1.02 difference in the price between the two parts. $36.87 for the LT (with the bright ring) part and $35.85 for the WT without the bright ring. The dealer, of course wanted the full retail of $64.26 for the LT one.

Question, how much does it cost GM to stock two parts that do exactly the same thing, are completely interchangeable and have a difference in price of a buck, one buck? And how many other items are like this? Makes absolutely no sense to me.

gmc dealerships have always been like that. I bought a new plastic for my tailgate housing from them and they charged me $60, then a week later i was at Canadian tire and they were $20. My loss i guess, but they are always have some kinda of stupid mark up on all their shit

How many other things, A LOT! Heck they build the Silverado and Sierra, which are almost the same, but have different sheet metals in places, and different interior trim bits. They waste a boat load of cash doing silly things like that.... :dunno:

They could probably shave $10k off the truck consdolidating the lines.....
