Erratic Tachometer

Hi all I'm new because I have a problem with my 2004 Yukon.

the tach has been intermittently sticking at 4,5,or 6k with the engine running or not.

I removed the instrument panel today and the tach stayed at 6k I tapped on it shook it etc.

I then plugged it back in and it sounded like a servo motor reseting and went back to zero.

Has anyone seen this before? It is working fine at the moment.

Problem is with the stepper motors in the console. Other dash indications will eventually fail. GM will pay for repairs if yer ride has 70k on the clock or less. Otherwise it is easy to remove the dash unit and ship to a rebuilder on ebay. Total cost about $85 including return shipping.

Looks like I waited too long. Its true that my 2004 Yukon has only 55k on the clock but the local dealer says there is a time limit also and wont honor the recall.
