A/c Kill Switch, Recirc Issue

I've got a 2003 Sierra SLT ext cab with dual zone climate controls. I'm wondering if there's any way to re-configure the computer to let me have control over when I want the a/c to come on and when the recirc is enabled. The a/c comes on & the recirc is disabled comes on when the defroster comes on-I realize that the a/c dries out the air to aid in clearing off the windshield. I live in the desert, and really only need a little bit of warm air to completely clear off the windshield 95% of the time.

I also noticed that the a/c comes on when the recirc button is enabled when the selector is in the "vent" position. What if I didn't want the a/c to come on??

I was reading another forum ( I was looking into a 4runner) and one of the Toyota techs was talking about a way to "kill" the a/c when the selector was in the defrost position. It was as simple as removing one of the wires from a plug behind the climate control.

-Since I'm here asking a climate control question, here's another...

I didn't realize that the recirc is disabled when the selector is in any position from heat to defrost when I bought the truck a couple years ago. It gets cold here in the desert in the winter time, and being designed in michigan, I wouldn't think that the GM engineers would think it's a good idea to force cold air into the passenger compartment when it's cold outside-especially when the truck hasn't warmed up yet!!

So, I need to know if there's a way to manually control these two items that the GM engineers didn't think I was smart enough to control myself.

Also-are the new GM trucks the same way?

Thanks in advance.
