Oem Gas Cap Or Aftermarket

Recommended Posts

I've been getting the P0455 code on my 06 Silverado Crew Cab so I'll get a new cap. Is only advisable option to get OEM cap from dealer or is aftermarket from AutoZone or Advance like Stant OK?

Don't want to be wondering if it's still the cap if I go aftermarket and CEL and code persist.

Thanks,

My stepdad had the same problem when he bought a used 07 about 6 months ago. Bought a Stant from Advance Auto and the CEL went away shortly after.

Is there something wrong with the cap? If the seal is not torn and it tightens up before it clicks it is fine. There are numerous other problems that can cause an evap large leak code p0455.

The seal is not torn. I cleaned the cap and all sealing surfaces; disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and the CEL was off when I reconnected. I don't mind getting a new cap. What other failures cause the P0455 code?

Thanks,

...What other failures cause the P0455 code?...
Said code indicates leak in the Evap System. Could be one of many things causing it.

Often times it's a malfunction of the Vent Valve, which sometimes can be diagnosed / remedied by bench testing & cleaning.

Dunno about the GMT800 trucks, but Stant is the OEM manufacturer for the factory-installed gas caps on the GMT900 trucks.

Thanks for the helpful info. After disconnecting the battery yesterday and that clearing the code I'm thinking that if it was something disconnected or broken like a vent pipe or cannister or engine vacuum leak that the code would come back almost immediately which it hasn't. So I'm leaning toward the cap.

Anyone agree or disagree.

I guess it could be the solenoid. If I opted to replace that is this the part I would need - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000S2SKIY/ref=pe...24030_pe_vfe_d1

And is this the fix instruction - http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/SKeel122...6_evap_vent.pdf eve though it references the P0446 code not the P0455.

Thanks,

Get a STANT from Advanced. They're made in USA, high quality. I swear, AutoZone has some crap products. I know Advanced isn't great, but at least they have reputable brands. AutoZone just sux. I got a gas cap there once, some off brand thing made in Isreal. Can you believe that? I have a stant locking cap now. The thing works like a charm.

I wanted a locking cap so I recently bought one from autozone. Its a MotoRad brand. Probably the nicest cap and key combo I have bought to date. The key looks like it could be a factory gas key. If you buy locking, spray the keyhole with WD40 and run your key through it. It keeps it smooth.

I'm having the same problems with my 05 Yukon XL. I replaced the gas cap with a Stant, but the code came back after a couple days. Does that mean the cap finally leaked, or is there another problem?

Can somebody post the same pdf's of my truck so I can trace the problem down:

•EVAP canister broke, hose cracked or not connected

•Purge or vent solenoid defective

•Vacuum leak at engine

Thanks
