Swamped Truck

hey guys i swamped my truc the other night and i was wondering whats goig on with it,, i drained the oil and took out the spark plugs and bumped the motor over, (with oil in it of course) the truck wants to run for three seconds and then dies i changed all the plugs but not plug wires.. just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the situation. its a 99 4.8L vortec

If you swamped the truck that bad then your distributor, rotor and maybe the crank sensor could be toast among wire connectors etc. Did the gas tank go under? Check all fuses?

the security light is on. and the tank did not go under water. The fuel pump still primes when the ignition goes on and it runs fine for the time it does. how do you get the security light off?

Can you tell us where the distributor is on a 1999 4.8l Vortec? I also highly doubt water would get in the gastank as they are pretty well sealed for emissions reduction and usually there is if anything a little pressure in them not vacuum that would suck water in.

 

My suspicion would be something is still wet like the MAF. The security system problem is worth looking at too.

 

It probably set a buynch of codes, can you clear them and see if any return when it stalls out?

checked for dtcs and found none it seems that when you give it gas as soon as it starts it stalls. sound like a throttle position sensor is wacked. im going to hook a canister to the shrader valve to see if it will run out of that.

there is no distribtor on the truck. its got coils that got to the ecm i would imagine. it is fuel injected too.

yeah i dont know what ele to check. i cant affor to take it to a gm dealer to get fixed so i guess she"ll be sitting there for a while. Poor baby :cheers:

I am pretty sure the distrubutorless V8s started with the LS variants, which the trucks did not get till some got them in 99. The f-body didn't get the LS till 98. In 96 the Vette was gen 2 engines either an LT1 or LT4 which had distributors
